        Vernon Hightower, of Evarts, Ky is serving in the quarter master branch of the armed forces. He is the son of Mr. Virgil Hightower, also of Ky. He is married to Kathleen"Ball" Hightower and has a 17 month old son.
        Private Hightower, was inducted in the army at Fort Thomas,Ky. He was later shipped to Camp Lee, Va and then to Camp Ellis, Ill. He went overseas Feb 4, 1944. Mr. Hightower was a former employee of the Black Mountain, Coal Corporation. He worked on a mechanical coal loader and operated the shuttle car. He attended Evarts high School, and participated in various sports such as football, baseball, and basketball. While overseas, he met William Bruce, a fellow from his own hometown.
